FAQs about scaffolding hire, work platforms & towers: JP Junior, Neyland

YOUR QUESTIONS...

. . .AND JP JUNIOR ANSWERS!

Scaffolding is an essential part of many construction, renovation and building maintenance projects.   At JP Junior, we are often asked questions about static scaffolding, work platforms and mobile towers for heritage restorations, commercial builds, or residential projects.

The following are answers to some of those questions.

• What is scaffolding?

'Scaffolding' describes any temporary structure that provides support and access for workers when building or maintaining structures.   It ensures stability, safety at height and efficiency, allowing multiple trades to work on a project simultaneously.

• Do I need to use scaffolding for my project?

If work is being carried out above ground level, scaffolding is often necessary.   It is particularly important for:

  • Building renovations and extensions
  • Roof repairs and maintenance
  • Commercial construction projects
  • Roof mounted solar energy installations

If you're unsure whether your project requires scaffolding, our expert team can assess your site and provide you with tailored advice.

• Can you provide scaffolding for listed properties?

Yes, we regularly supply and erect scaffolding for heritage conservation work.   Listed building scaffolding requires non-invasive designs to protect historic fabric, often using temporary works like free-standing or cantilevered systems to avoid damage.

[ BONUS:  Special considerations for listed buildings. . . ]

Protection of historic fabric:   The scaffold must be designed to avoid damage to fragile stone, brickwork, or architectural features.

Non-invasive construction:   According to OSHA standard 29 CFR 1926.451(c)(1), scaffolds with a height to base width ratio of more than 4:1 MUST be restrained by guying, tying, bracing, or equivalent means.   With a listed building, this may mean designing cantilevered structures, or using freestanding scaffolding. . .  rather being anchored into the fabric of the building.

Specialist expertise:   JP Junior Scaffolding are experienced in erecting scaffold for heritage sites, ensuring compliance with conservation standards.

Regulatory consent:   Listed building consent may be required for temporary, or potentially damaging, erections.
